There is Relief for Varicose Vein Pain!
At Visalia Women’s Imaging Specialists, patients are walking in with significant varicose vein conditions and walking out well on their road to recovery. Often patients and others see varicose veins as mainly a cosmetic issue. Dr. McElroy, an interventional radiologist, has been treating varicose veins for over 10 years using a combination of therapies including Endovenous Laser Therapy (E.V.L.T.). He states, “the vast majority of the patients I care for have significant lifestyle limiting symptoms caused by their varicose veins, and that is usually the main reason they seek care. Looking better is important but making them feel better after what is typically a less than 90-minute procedure is what makes the new varicose vein therapies most rewarding.” A lot of patients don’t realize that their symptoms of itching, leg restlessness, throbbing, cramps, swelling (in addition to the aching pain most people attribute to varicosities) can all be due to varicose veins.
In combination with sclerotherapy (ultrasound guided removal), EVLT has proven to be a very safe and effective way to treat varicosities and their underlying cause, venous insufficiency. The ultrasound technologists are specially trained to detect venous insufficiency and “map” the lower extremity veins. Once referred, Dr. McElroy performs an initial consult, discusses the clinical and radiologic findings with the patient, performs any appropriate procedures, and follows up with the patient.
